"The launch event for Whitstable Street/Beach Pastors took place on 13th January at the United Reform Church in Middle Wall, Whitstable. Over 120 people joined the event, with over 50 showing an interest in being a Street/Beach Pastor. It was an amazing response to this project. The Key note speaker was an Ascension Trust Representative (the Parent Trust for Street Pastors). He confirmed the continuing support of the Ascension Trust to our project. The District Police Commander - Chief Inspector Barlow spoke at the meeting about the value this project will bring to our communities. He also pledged £1,000 from Kent Police to show their support. Douglas Rattray, the lead officer for Community Safety at Canterbury City Council also confirmed his support. He has offered to help the project too. Josh Benn, the Coordinator of Street Pastors in Canterbury gave an inspiring talk about what it is like to be a Street Pastor. He is very keen to support us here in Whitstable.
All Churches in Whitstable have confirmed their support for Street Pastors. This really is God moving within our fellowship of Churches.
I have been asked several times "Are we Whitstable Street Pastors, or are we Whistable Beach Pastors". We are both. The formal name is Whitstable Street Pastors as we are part of a network of over 250 Street Pastors Schemes across the UK (and across the world). This project is supported and licensed by a charity called The Ascension Trust. However, as we intend our focus to be not just the centre of Whitstable, but also the beach area - we are locally calling it Whitstable Beach Pastors.
Thank you for continued prayers of support.
