Reaching Out
We believe in showing the love of Jesus Christ to the community in which God has placed us. To do this we preach the Gospel ('good news') about Jesus and seek to serve Him both locally and support those who are working in other parts of the UK and abroad in this same work. What is evangelism? Evangelism is sharing the good news that God in Christ loves the world and offers salvation from "aimlessness and sin" to that world. Evangelism, from the Greek word Euaggelizo, meaning "to bring good news, to announce glad tidings," is the invitation, coming from those journeying along the "way of Christ," which is extended to others to join them. In one poet’s words, it is simply "one hungry beggar telling another where he/she has found food."
What is the good news? The good news of Jesus Christ is at the heart of the New Testament. It is the gospel message that we are not alone in this world, that the God of creation is present with us in marvellous and compelling ways. This message was lived out in the birth, ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The disciples were commissioned to "go and tell others" what they had experienced. The writers of the books of the New Testament attempted to give voice to this message. As Paul said, "We are witnesses to all that he did..." (Acts 10:39). |
